Community College of Philadelphia

A number of initiatives have provided assistance to participants as well as assisting in providing support to new participants. Some of the major partnerships that have been established include:

  • On-Line FAFSA completion for students meeting with CCP financial aid counselors - the Head Administrator with CCP refers non-matriculated students to the EOC when they communicate with a counselor about their financial aid needs.
  • General Referral System - as a major part of the EOC-CCP partnership adults who have not yet matriculated to the CCP are referred to the EOC program to receive basic support and counseling services that are unavailable from the CCP.
  • Organization of Major Community Functions - the EOC will partner in organizing major community events around educational and career themes that are sponsored by CCP, such as the 5th Annual Family Life Festival that will take place in May.
  • Tutorial Assistance to Developmental Students - the EOC will assist the CCP tutorial staff in providing individual and group instructional activities in the CCP/EOC learning lab. As a part of this activity, CCP tutors will be taught how to access instructional resources with the use of EOC computers and library. As with all the activities mentioned above, only students who sign up as participants in the EOC will be able to take advantage of this partnership activity.
  • Completion of the EOC Instructional Support Laboratory - the lab is comprised of four computers connected to two printers. The lab provides math, reading and writing support to EOC participants. The computers are equipped with instructional support material that has been gathered from the World Wide Web to provide an innovative learning environment for participants. Also housed on the computers are the EOC seminars in the form of PowerPoint presentations enabling students to have access to the core curriculum of the program. Students can read the material at their convenience, as well as print the material out. The lab's computers is also the source of the EOC library, offering innumerable web sites with information on colleges, adult basic education materials, career search tools and information, and information on financial aid. The College Board's Accuplacer program serves as the primary tool for assessing students academic strength and weaknesses.
