A number of initiatives have provided assistance to participants as well as assisting in providing support to new participants. Some of the major partnerships that have been established include:
- Philadelphia Housing Authority
provide educational support to residents of West Philadelphia's public housing facilities. - Free Library of Philadelphia
will provide seminars on accessing educational resources through the Internet and the college admissions process to four libraries in West Philadelphia regional library system. In the partnership, the regional librarian will advertise the EOC programs to community residents, allow participants to have special access to the library's computer resources during the seminar presentation, and facilitate on-going advertisement of the EOC in the library's literature. - West Philadelphia Young Men's Athletic Association (YMCA)
with 2,000 adult members, the EOC will be the only adult educational programming that is offered by the YMCA. The YMCA has agreed to advertise our services occurring at the central EOC offices and to provide space for making presentations within the YMCA itself. - Mount Carmel Baptist Church
with one of the largest congregations in West Philadelphia, MCBC will serve as a pilot program for servicing the religious communities. While the church has a small computer lab, they have not developed an adequate support system for adults. The EOC will is providing seminars to prepare adults to for post-secondary education. - Community College of Philadelphia
- Outreach to Parents of Upward Bound, Talent Search, and GEAR-UP Students
in collaboration with several University of Pennsylvania programs, the EOC will offer aspects of its core curriculum to parents throughout West Philadelphia through a series of workshops designed to motivate parents to improve the educational achievement level of their children and themselves. The workshops will be a major collaboration between the EOC, CCP, Penn Trio programs, and the School District of Philadelphia. - People's Emergency Center
providing EOC seminars at a shelter for homeless women and families. - The Center for Literacy
the EOC has become a major source for organizations like the CFL to refer West Philadelphia residents to who are interested in post-secondary educational opportunities.
