What Happens During the Intake Appointment
Your initial or "intake" appointment allows us to gather information, get a clear picture of your needs, and to make some decisions about the most appropriate course of action to be taken. At times, this could involve our referring you to another agency or professional who may better serve your needs.

Cancelling or Missing Appointments
In order to cancel or reschedule an appointment you already have set up with your counselor, please call our Front Desk 215-898-7021 and ask to speak to your therapist. If he/she is not available leave a message with the Receptionist and they will relay the message to your therapist.

Ending Counseling
Most students use us for short-term therapy. When your symptoms are relieved and you are feeling better and functioning well at school, feel free to discuss it with your therapist. There are times, for clinical reasons, that you may be referred to an outside provider. We provide referrals to screened professionals outside of Penn.

If you have scheduled an intake appointment, please click here to complete the required Intake Forms.

Eligibility for Services
We offer confidential and free professional services to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at Penn.

Making an Intake Appointment
An intake appointment is your initial appointment with a CAPS clinician. To schedule your intake appointment at CAPS, call our office (215-898-7021) between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. CAPS does not schedule intake appointments via email. Be prepared to give the receptionist your contact information including your name, Penn ID number, and your daytime phone number.

Once you have made your intake appointment, you will need to fill out intake forms. You can download and complete most of these forms and bring them in with you. You will need to fill out a few additional forms in our office so, please come at least 10 minutes before your appointment time. These intake forms involve various questions regarding why you might be coming to CAPS, and should take about 10 minutes to complete.
