Psychology Fellowship

Viewed as emerging professional colleagues, psychology fellows are given the support and training necessary to further specialize in psychological service delivery within a university mental health setting. Within their full-time commitment to CAPS, fellows participate in all areas of clinical, administrative and training functions of the agency.

Fellows are encouraged to be actively involved in designing components of their training program to meet their individual needs. Fellows are encouraged to work with their supervisors and the Director of Training to identify and develop particular areas of individual interest and skill.

Clinical activities include the following: intake assessment, crisis intervention (On-Call Counselor), ongoing brief and longer-term individual psychotherapy, couples counseling (when possible) and group psychotherapy. Outreach activities include provision of presentations and university consultation/liaison services. Fellows participate with staff in regularly scheduled staff meetings and professional development seminars. Further, when possible, fellows are given the opportunity to participate in the administrative planning of the agency by providing leadership to identified service delivery programs (e.g., chairing/co-chairing a service delivery team such as outreach). In addition to providing didactic seminars to various training groups at CAPS, fellows are given the opportunity to facilitate process-oriented training modules and supervise individual trainees whenever possible.

The training component of this full-time position will include weekly individual face-to-face supervision, individual supervision for group therapy, and individual supervision for other clinical as well as outreach/programmatic opportunities listed above.

It is preferred that candidates have completed all requirements for a doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology from an APA-approved program; however, candidates who are ABD will also be considered. Applicants must have successfully completed an APA-approved internship by July 31, 2008. Previous training in university counseling center settings, clinical supervision and multicultural counseling is preferred. Further, experience with consultation/outreach with diverse university populations is also highly desired.

The post-doctoral fellowship begins on August 1, 2008 and ends on
July 31, 2009. We offer a competitive stipend and benefits. Review of applications will begin on February 12th and will continue until the two positions are filled.

A completed application should include:
