Independent and Private School Recruiting at Penn
Private and independent schools provide one way of teaching without becoming certified. For an overview of teaching without certification, and alternate methods of becoming certified, click here.
There are opportunities for openings all over the United States (and occasionally abroad). Due to the large number of private and independent schools in the Northeast, many opportunities are in this region.
Several placement agencies and some schools participate in On Campus Recruiting (OCR) usually in early-mid October. Interested students should aply through the regular OCR process (for information, click here).
Further Options
Besides private school recruiting, students interested in teaching in private schools may try the following options:
Visit the websites of schools of interest. Schools often list job openings on the career/jobs section of their website.
Frequently check listings on PennLink
Contact a placement agency.
Visit the job listing section of the National Association of Independent Schools website.
Make use of Career Services. Attend the Private School Teaching Panel. Read experts' opinions on private school teaching.
If you have any questions, contact your career counselor.
