Services for Employers

Career Services for PennDesign Students
An Overview

Individual Advising
Graduate career advisors are available to discuss any career-related concerns, including resumes and other job-hunting materials, and identifying internship and job opportunities.  Call (215) 898-7530 to schedule an appointment. Walk-in hours are held daily in Career Services. Walk-ins are also held in Meyerson during the spring semester, prior to the annual Resume Books deadline and before PennDesign Career Connection Day.

Employer / Alumni Database

Career Services maintains information on employers that have hired PennDesign students/recent graduates for internships and permanent jobs, listed a job or an internship, requested a resume book, or recruited at Penn. More than 1450 employers are in the database with contact information.  Many employers are alumni who are willing to discuss their work and give advice on job hunting.

PennDesign Career Connection
The annual spring career fair, held each spring usually in March, is an opportunity for PennDesign students to speak with representatives of 60+ firms and organizations, some of them alumni. Some employers arrange employer presentations or on-campus interviews as part of their visit.

Virtual Career Fair
A virtual career fair is also held for two weeks in the spring to make it possible for employers who can’t attend the on-campus event to post job and internship openings, review electronically submitted resumes and design sheets, and make contact with PennDesign students.

Resume Books
Early in the spring semester, students post resumes to virtual resume books on PennLink, organized by academic program. Employers seeking full-time employees or summer interns can register to access resumes for Architecture, City Planning, Fine Arts, Historic Preservation, Landscape Architecture and Real Estate.

Workshops and Panels
There are many workshops on creating effective job-hunting materials such and on interview preparation.  Panels of alumni and area professionals, including Careers in Architecture, Careers in Historic Preservation and Voices in Planning, are held in the spring semester. Our calendar is available here.

Job Listings, Internships, Summer Jobs
Permanent, summer, and part-time openings with employers interested in Penn students are always available on PennLink, the Career Services job information system.

Surveys
Career Services surveys graduating students about their career plans and posts an annual report listing positions taken by new graduates.

E-Mail Distribution List

Career Services counselors maintain a PennDesign distribution list so that workshop, job and internship information, and other career information can reach students and alumni quickly and directly.  There is also an alumni list for PennDesign graduates who completed their degree more than 4 years ago. Sign up for either list here.

Other Resources
A library of career books and other publications, PACNet (Penn Alumni Network), company and private school recruiting, practice interviews.  There are also resources for faculty job seekers including programs, fellowship information, and The Academic Job Search Handbook.
