Description of Recommendations/Credentials Services
Career Services is happy to announce our partnership with Interfolio, Inc. as provider of web-based credentials file management services for the Penn community. Interfolio is successfully used by over 200 colleges and universities. Most of our peer institutions, including five Ivy schools, have established similar partnerships with Interfolio and have found that service has improved as a result. For a small fee users can store their letters with Interfolio, and have them mailed out whenever they apply for graduate school admission, employment or funding. Interfolio also provides free accounts for letter writers who may send letters of recommendation to Interfolio electronically, or via the US postal service. We believe that Interfolio will offer the greatest convenience and accessibility to our students and alumni for managing letters of recommendation and other important documents.

PLEASE NOTE: Pre-Health applicants will continue to use the Career Services Credentials system, whether they are working with Career Services Pre-Health Advisors, or taking post-bac classes through LPS.

Features of Interfolio for students and alumni:

• Interfolio promises quick turn around on mailing requests – 24 hour processing with no added rush fee; Their customer service department will answer email questions and they also have a 24-hour online help desk;
• Multiple mailing options, including overnight, and/or electronic delivery where available;
• Secure online credit card payments are accepted along with checks and money orders;
• Users may keep both confidential and non-confidential letters on file;
• Additional documents such as writing samples, articles, test scores, unofficial transcripts, etc. may be stored at Interfolio;
• As part of their service, Interfolio provides students and alumni a web-based portfolio at no additional cost. Some students have requested this and found it to be very useful, particularly doctoral students who wish to present a compilation of their teaching materials or other documents;

Features of Interfolio for letter writers:

• Letter writers may upload the documents they write electronically, or mail the letters on behalf of their students to Interfolio free of charge;
• Letter writers have ongoing access to all documents they upload. They can easily make updates and check the status of the documents they have submitted to Interfolio.

We think that both file holders and letter writers will be very pleased with Interfolio, its convenience and ease of use.
