Advising Services
Resources for Students Considering Graduate and Professional School

Counseling
Counselors are available to advise undergraduates and alumni with applications, admissions requirements, researching programs, essays and financial aid Appointments should be scheduled in advance by stopping at the pre graduate desk of calling the administrative assistant. For an alum who does not live in the Philadelphia area, graduate and professional school counseling is available by phone.
Credentials
Career Services keeps letters of recommendation written on your behalf of professors and former employers in a Credentials File. This is a permanent file that only you can forward materials from. For instructions on how to open a file, see the receptionist at the front desk of Career Services or check the website. If you are uncertain about who you should ask to write your letters of recommendation for a specific program, you may want to discuss this further with a counselor. Click here to view the Credentials section of this website.
- Essay Critique
A counselor will critique a statement of purpose or personal essay for graduate/professional school applications. Bring your essay to the pre graduate desk and allow 3-5 days for a written critique. If you are having trouble developing the content of your essay, feel free to make an appointment with a counselor. Alums can fax or send essays for critique.
- Workshops
Throughout the year workshops on applying to graduate and professional school are sponsored by Career Services to provide students with up to date information on the preparation and application process for graduate/professional school. Check the Programs and Orientations section by clicking here.
- Panels
Career Services coordinates a panel series each semester focusing on specific graduate programs. Admissions staff, faculty, and graduate students are often represented at these programs. The panel series is advertised in the DP and a schedule is available at the pre grad desk.
- Graduate/Professional School Information Sessions
Presentations by representatives of graduate/professional programs are held in the fall semester. While these are not formal interviews, graduate/professional school information sessions provide students with an opportunity to meet with an admissions representative or faculty and find out more information about the academics program and other resources. Advance sign up is required. Click here to view the information session schedule.
- Library
Located directly across from the receptionist's desk. The Career Service library contains a variety of graduate and professional school resources. School directory guides, periodicals, books on financial aid, writing essays plus graduate and professional school catalogues can be found in the graduate school section of the library. In addition to regular office hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, the library is open from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Click here to visit the library section of this website.
