Welcome to the graduate Humanities and Social Sciences section of the Career Services website. To your left you will find information about appointments and walk-ins, our schedule of workshops and programs, resources to assist with developing effective job search materials, and below you will find information on careers in both academic and non-academic settings. These resources are geared toward graduate students and postdocs in the Annenberg School for Communication, Graduate Arts and Sciences, and the Wharton doctoral program as well as alumni of those schools.

During your time at Penn you can use our services whenever you need them. Selected examples include:
- Attending our events for new students.
- Deciding after a year that graduate school is not for them and working with us to figure out other options.
- Using the funding resources section of our website and getting feedback on CVs for fellowships.
- Attending our panels on applying for academic jobs.
- Attending our panels on non-academic career options and sometimes participating in on-campus recruiting.
- Scheduling mock interviews with career advisors to get feedback on their interview style and technique
- Attending workshops on job offer negotiation and on starting the new job.
Alumni of graduate programs are welcome to use most of our services.

Multi-purpose Internet Resources
- Carnegie Initiative on the Doctorate - Initiative that examines various aspects of doctoral education and helps interested departments restructure their programs in order to improve graduates chances for employment
- Council of Graduate Schools - A national organization dedicated to promoting graduate education and research. Their website features many interesting students of graduate education on a national level.
- National Coalition of Independent Scholars - The National Coalition of Independent Scholars (NCIS) was formed to facilitate the work of independent scholars. They have a wonderful list of resources for anyone interested in continuing a research program without institutional affiliation.
- H-Net Job Guide - Academic position announcements in History and the Humanities, the Social Sciences, and Rhetoric and Composition.
