List of Services
General Information: Career Services (CS) offers a wide range of resources to assist students and alumni in exploring career, employment, and funding opportunities. We're located at 3718 Locust Walk in the McNeil Building, Suite 20. Our office hours are Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and when classes are in session, our career library is also open Tuesday and Wednesday evenings until 6:00 p.m. Sharon Fleshman, Peggy Curchack, John Tuton, and Monica Tavares (on leave), (215) 898-4381, are the Career Counselors for the School of Nursing (SON).
CS Internet Connections: Don't miss our homepage where you can find this semester's program calendar, job listings, resume writing, interviewing and job searching tips, as well as LINKS specifically selected for your school.
Individual Advising: Discuss career issues/options, job search strategies/implementation and networking tactics with a counselor. Have your resume, c.v., and cover letters critiqued. Call (215) 898-4381 to schedule an appointment. All meetings are confidential.
Alumni Contacts: A large number of Penn alumni have offered to speak with you about their careers and employers. If you are evaluating career opportunities, seeking information about an employer or wish to learn more about a professional role, the advice of these experienced alumni can be invaluable. Check out this connection on our home page – the Penn Career Network.
Job Listings: Are available on-line through our homepage. Select "PennLink," which is accessible with your PennKey (alumni without a PennKey can follow the instructions to obtain a password).. Through PennLink, you can search for jobs by type of work, geography, key word and employer name. The paper copies of these positions are also available in CS behind the front reception desk. PLEASE NOTE: use a variety of approaches to uncover job listings; CS is one of many resources.
Mock Interviews: Practice is the best way to approach interviews with confidence. Meet with one of your counselors for a practice interview to sharpen your skills. Videotaping is available.
Credentials File Service: You may establish a "credentials file" which holds your letters of recommendation for your use in applying for employment, graduate school, and/or fellowships. Once established, your file may be added to and used throughout your career. To start a file, stop by the Career Services reception desk to complete the necessary forms, or check our web page by clicking here.
Career Workshops: Learn how to maximize your job search by attending our job search strategies and interviewing skills workshops. This semester's workshop calendar is available on the front page for each school.
Career Library: Arranged by career field, our career library has a wide variety of materials and resources. Our library is open Monday – Friday, 9-5 pm. When classes are in session, we have extended hours on Tuesday and Wednesday until 6 pm.
Funding Information: The best advice if you are trying to identify funding resources is to start early - many deadlines are up to a year in advance of when funding begins. There are several excellent directories in the funding section of our library including: The Annual Register of Grant Support, the Directory of Financial Aids for Women, and Foundation Grants to Individuals.
Career Fairs:
Nursing Career Day: December 8, 2008. All students and alumni of the School of Nursing are invited to attended this great event. Employers will be on campus in December to recruit students with BSN's, MSN's and related degrees.
