Dear Mr. Samuels:

I was pleased to discover through Penn’s Online Internship Database that Computer World is seeking a Software Design Intern for the Summer 2003. I am currently enrolled in the Computer Science and Engineering program at the University of Pennsylvania and will be completing my junior year this May. I have been impressed with the recent products that Computer World has launched and I am eager to gain experience at a company that is at the forefront of new technology.

As my resume indicates, I had the opportunity to work as a summer intern at ABC last summer. Through this internship, I collaborated with software engineers and other interns to redesign an existing software application. In addition, I gained programming experience in C and Java. Currently, I am working with a team of three students to design a web-based database using MYSQL and PHP. I am confident that my professional and academic experiences would enable me to me make a meaningful contribution to Computer World.

I plan to return to Atlanta for the winter break (December 21st- January 12th). I will call you in advance of my trip to set up a possible appointment to discuss this position with you in greater detail.
