List of Services

General Information Career Services (CS) offers a wide range of resources to assist students and alumni in exploring career, employment, and funding opportunities.  We are located at 3718 Locust Walk, in the lower level of the McNeil Building, Suite 20.  Our office hours are Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

E-mail Distribution List:  Join one of our listservs to receive announcements about job openings, internships, and upcoming programs.

Individual AdvisingDiscuss career issues/options, job search strategies/implementation and networking tactics with a counselor, or have your resume, C.V., and cover letters critiqued.  Call (215) 898-4381 to schedule an appointment. All meetings are confidential.

Graduate/Professional School Advising: Counselors are available to advise Penn students and alumni on graduate and professional school possibilities, applications, admission requirements, researching programs, and funding. Visit the Pre-Grad Home Page or call (215) 898-1789 to schedule an appointment.

Alumni Contacts:  Almost 2,000 Penn alumni have offered to speak with current Penn students about their careers. Register with the Penn Alumni Career Network if you are evaluating career opportunities, seeking information about an employer, or wish to learn more about a professional role. The advice of these experienced alumni can be invaluable.

Job Listings:   Job listings are available on-line through PennLink, which is accessible with your PennKey (alumni without a PennKey can follow the instructions to obtain a password).  Through PennLink, you can search for jobs by type of work, geography, key word and/or employer name.  Paper copies of these positions are also available in Career Services, behind the front reception desk. PLEASE NOTE: use a variety of approaches to uncover job listings; Career Services is only one of many resources.

Mock InterviewsPractice is the best way to approach interviews with confidence!  Meet with a Career Services counselor for a one-hour practice interview to sharpen your skills.  Videotaping is available, upon request.

Credentials File Service:  Career Services has partnered with Interfolio, Inc. to handle the maintenance and mailing of credentials for Penn students and alumni. For more information, visit the Credentials Homepage.

Workshops & PanelsLearn how to maximize your job search by attending our job search strategies and interviewing skills workshops.  Click here for this semester's workshop calendar.

Career Library:  Arranged by career field, our career library has a wide variety of materials and resources.  Our library is open Monday – Friday, 9-5 pm.  When Fall & Spring classes are in session, we have extended hours on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings until 6 pm.

Funding Information: The best advice if you are trying to identify funding resources is to start early. Many deadlines are up to a year in advance of when funding begins. There are several excellent directories in the funding section of our library, including The Annual Register of Grant Support, the Directory of Financial Aids for Women, and Foundation Grants to Individuals.

Career Fairs:

Policy & Government Fair, Friday, October 9, 2009: Connect with representatives from government agencies, think tanks, policy and political organizations, and many others.

Social Services Career Fair, Thursday, March 25, 2010: Meet with employers and recruiters in social services, behavioral health, and health care who seek candidates pursuing social work, counseling and related areas. Open to Penn students and Alumni. See Which Employers Attended the 2009 Social Services Career Day!
