Professional associations administer professional certifications. This process is referred to as credentialing, which is distinct from licensing. In some states, these certifications are useful for receiving insurance reimbursement, but the law does not require them. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) , the largest membership organization of social workers, offers several professional certifications. Information on all NASW credentials is available on the NASW website . The American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work offers the Board Certified Diplomate (BCD).
