School of Social Social Policy & Practice Career Plans and Salary Survey Report: 2005-2006 Graduates

Each year Career Services surveys graduates of the Graduate School of Social Policy & Practice to identify their post-graduation plans. This report summarizes information reported by the December 2005, May 2006 and August 2006 graduates who responded to the survey. 

School of Social Policy & Practice Graduates

A total of seventy-five (75) graduates from the School of Social Policy & Practice returned surveys. Seventy-three (73) respondents were MSW students, one (1) was a Ph.D. student and one (1) received a Masters in Non-Profit Management.

Because of the limited data for PhD and MS students, the report below reflects only the MSW graduates. For information on PhD and other non-MSW graduates, please contact Career Services.

Of the seventy-three (73) MSW graduates who returned surveys, all reported their post-graduation plans. Master of Social Work graduates reported their plans upon graduation as follows:

Of the sixty-five (65) respondents who reported work addresses for full-time or part-time positions, fifty-seven (57) graduates (87%) are employed in the northeastern states.  The exact breakdown for this year is noted below.

TYPES OF POSITIONS ACCEPTED BY MSW RESPONDENTS

The University of Pennsylvania has joined a national effort among schools of social work, to adopt a more uniform survey in hopes of receiving a more comprehensive picture of where Social Workers go upon graduation.  Below you will find the 2005-2006 categories and statistics, as well as the previous job categories and statistics.

2005-2006 Categories

Blend of Case Management and Clinical Practice (50% of each) positions were accepted by 29% (19) of graduates.

Assessment, Placement Plan, Crisis intervention positions were accepted by 0% (0) of graduates this year.

Case Management positions were accepted by 8% (5) of graduates this year.

Clinical Practice positions were accepted by 23% (15) of graduates this year.

Community Development positions were accepted by 0% (0) of graduates this year.

Fundraising positions were accepted by 1.5% (1) of graduates this year.

Management/Administration positions were accepted by 12% (8) of graduates this year.

Policy positions were accepted by 1.5% (1) of graduates this year.

Research positions were accepted by 3% (2) of graduates this year.

Program Development positions were accepted by 11% (7) of the graduates this year.

11% (7) of this year's graduates reported taking Other positions.
