What is the Penn Engineering Mentoring Program (PEMP)?
The University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) Mentoring Program, begun in 2002, is a two-semester program pairing first-year engineering students in a one-on-one mentoring relationship with a volunteer SEAS Alumni Mentor of their choosing. Mentees and Mentors are connected during the spring of the student's first year. Each pair will then have the opportunity to build a unique relationship through conversation and meetings encouraged throughout the formal program.
Mentee-Mentor activities have in the past included:

Visiting and touring the Mentor’s company

What are the benefits of HAVING a Mentor?
The Mentee-Mentor relationship encourages the educational, professional and personal growth of the student by providing exposure to and
expanding the student's perceptions of career possibilities as well as providing guidance drawing on the Mentor's experience.
What are the benefits of BEING a Mentor?
Becoming a Mentor is an invaluable opportunity for our students, and can also be an excellent experience for Alumni. The relationship allows
Alumni to remain engaged with Penn and the School of Engineering and Applied Science as well as gain personal
and professional rewards by sharing his or her unique workplace and professional experience as an immeasurable learning benefit to the Mentee.
What is expected of the Mentee and Mentor?
By applying and accepting a Mentor match, each Mentee is making a commitment to initiate and maintain contact with the Mentor throughout the formal program. Mentors are asked to allow time and opportunity for the Mentee to ask questions and to learn more about potential career and personal paths for engineers. At the end of the program, both participants are encouraged to complete a web-based evaluation on the experience and if mutually agreeable to continue the relationship beyond the formal program conclusion.
How do I become a Mentee?
First-year Engineering students interested in the program should plan to attend an information session in early Spring of their freshman year. At the Information Session, each student will receive complete application instructions and a secure link to the online database of Mentors. Eligible students who are interested but unable to attend a session should contact Jamie Grant in Career Services to determine if an individual appointment is available.
