davidturner_resize.jpg  David Turner is a graduate student in the Higher Education Division at the Graduate School of   Education here at Penn. Prior to coming to Penn, David was an advocate for equity and social justice. He graduated Cum Laude from California State University, Dominguez Hills in the summer   of 2013, where he was a Ronald E. McNair Scholar and majored in Africana Studies with a minor in Sociology. He served as a student leader in various capacities throughout his undergraduate experience, including founding an organization, participating in student government, and acting as a voice for students. He was the Educational Equity Program Coordinator for the Social Justice Learning Institute where he facilitated youth participatory action research with Black and Latino male students across Los Angeles. He also tracked their academic progress and helped them identify postsecondary pathways.

 At Civic House, David advises CHAC groups associated with poverty, assists in facilitating   workshops for public interest careers and social justice issues, and he assists with the Civic Scholars Program.
