The Center for Advanced Study of India (CASI) offers travel funds to spend the summer in India! Students have to opportunity to have volunteer internships with grassroots NGOs and conduct independent field research. Applications for the summer internship can be found here and are due February 6th. CASI also accepts applications for those interested in travel funds for summer research. PIBV is a non-profit, student run organization that implements student trips to consult nonprofits and NGO's in developing countries, enhancing the infrastructure needed for sustainable growth and long-term development in the area. GESI is a unique, credit bearing program from Northwestern Univesity offered to all students that combines service-learning, study abroad, cultural immersion, and invaluable international work experience at community-based organizations. The institute offers opportunities for those interested in going to India this summer, to work with a NGO in Udaipur and live with a homestay family. Penn Monologues are recruiting for submissions to their April Show. If you have a story to share as they relate to the dynamics and perceptions of gender, sexuality, sexual identity, race, age, and more. All styles of writing are accepted. The Emerson Fellows of the Netter Center will offer two graduating Penn seniors who have worked with the Netter Center for Community Partnerships and/or its university assisted community schools program as undergraduates an opportunity to engage meaningfully in practice and policy through a one-year appointment(potentially renewable for a second year). The Penn Preceptorial called the Food Justice Movement focuses on the efforts of organizations like Urban Nutrition Initiative to promote the food justice movement in Philadelphia. The preceptorial will be discussion and experience based and will include panels, facilitated discussions and trips. The dates for the preceptorial will be spread out through the spring semester. The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund has applications available for student activists who are building progressive movements for social change and will be enrolled in school during the 2012-2013 academic year. Applications and the supporting document--transcripts, personal statement, two letters of recommendation, a photograph, and financial aid reports--must be postmarked by April 1st, 2012. Camp AmeriKids is a summer camp in New York serving children living with HIV/AIDS and other serious illnesses. The 40th Street Artist-in-Residence Program (AIR) awards West Philadelphia artists one year of free studio space at 40th and Chestnut Sts. In exchange, each artist shares his/her talents with West Philadelphia by leading workshops, teaching classes, exhibiting in the area, etc. Founded by artist Edward M. Epstein in 2003, the program addresses the need for studio space in West Philadelphia, assists artists with career development, and makes the 40th Street area a nexus for visual arts.
