GREATER PHILADELPHIA COALITION AGAINST HUNGER

There are 85,000 Philadelphians who are eligible for food stamps, but not receiving them.  The Coalition has trained over 300 student and community volunteers to assist in conducting outreach at sites throughout the city. Our volunteers visit a wide variety of sites, including health centers, hospitals, CareerLink unemployment centers, and food cupboards, to conduct outreach, screenings and application assistance for potentially eligible households. The Coalition also provides food stamp screenings and application assistance via our telephone information hotline. Join the fight against hunger and help these families!

Training:  Before you begin working with us, you will need to attend a training session.  Below are a list of training dates and times:

Tuesday June 3rd from 1-4:30pm at the Fox Leadership Building.

For more information, check out our website at www.hungercoalition.org and contact Stacy Holdren at 215-430-0555 or sholdren@hungercoalition.org

We are in need of volunteers to help with office duties and fundraiser activities. The hours of volunteer are anytime from 2pm to 9 pm, Monday thru Saturday. We are also scheduling a Talent Show during the summer months, where we are looking for volunteers to help with coordinating that event and other recreation activities. SOUTHWEST COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT CENTER: TEENS 'N TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

The Southwest Community Enrichment Center has been in operation for nearly 40 years and runs very successful programs servicing the many needs of the community's youth and elderly. One of those components is the Teens in Technology(TNT) program which consists of 25 juniors in highschool from schools in and around the Southwest area of the City. The youth are taught computer technology skills in order to help supplement their current curriculum and improve their chances of advancing and excelling in the fields of higher education, career and/or professional business development. Enrichment and building character are also major components of the TNT program; therefore, we also provide the students with mentors and encourage them to participate in community service projects.

WE ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING MENTORS!!! The ideal candidate would be an individual who has experience and knowledge about college preparation as well as the work world. Most importantly the candidate must be responsible, resourceful and sincere about making a positive change in a young person's life. NO TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY! We are asking mentors to commit to a minimum of two years, but participation does not require a time consuming commitment.

For more information or to volunteer, please contact Khadija Shariff, Program Coordinator, at 215-386-0641 or email kashariff@gmail.com.
