The following is a list of agencies in the Philadelphia area that work on issues surrounding poverty and hunger:

Philabundance (formerly Greater Philadelphia Food Bank) is a nonprofit organization that collects surplus food from restaurants, caterers, and such, for distribution to needy persons in the Philadelphia region.

Food Not Bombs distributes free food in Philadelphia neighborhoods and educates people about issues dealing with food, hunger, and homelessness. , (215) 727-1469

Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger serves as an information clearinghouse and a catalyst for collective action around the issue of hunger in Southeastern Pennsylvania. (215) 430-0555

SHARE (Self-Help and Resource Exchange) is a program where people can purchase a package of food for $16 and 2 hours of community service with a retail value of about $35.  The food package contains meat, fresh fruits, vegetables, and staples.  SHARE buyers purchase the food from growers, brokers, and packaging plants.  The food is not donated, government surplus, or salvage. Pennsylvania Hunger Action Center is a non-profit organization working with partners across the Commonwealth to end hunger. Hunger Action’s mission focuses on ensuring food security for all Pennsylvanians.

Community Food Security Coalition The Community Food Security Coalition (CFSC) is dedicated to building strong, sustainable, local and regional food systems that ensure access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food for all people at all times. We seek to develop self-reliance among all communities in obtaining their food and to create a system of growing, manufacturing, processing, making available, and selling food that is regionally based and grounded in the principles of justice, democracy, and sustainability

The Food Trust The Food Trust's mission is to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, nutritious food. Founded in 1992, the Trust works to improve the health of children and adults, promote good nutrition, increase access to nutritious foods, and advocate for better public policy.

MANNA nourishes the mind, body and spirit of clients, volunteers and supporters alike. Drawn from all walks of life, the young, old, urban and suburban come together with one common goal: to promote wellness through nutrition for people at acute nutritional risk living in Eastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey.

University City Hospitality Coalition provides direct support services for poor and homeless people including daily meals at different sites in University City.
