Katie Turek joined the Civic House staff in August of 2011 as the Graduate Assistant. She earned her Master's degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education. At Civic House, Katie helps out in a variety of capacities -- she advises the student leaders of the Public Health CHAC organizations, assists the CHAC Executive Board members in planning the monthly "Think About It" event series, facilitates Alternate Spring Break training sessions and retreats, and works collaboratively with other university departments. She has also served as a volunteer tutor for 9th grade algebra at University City High School through the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project.
Previously, Katie earned her Bachelor's degree in Sociology from The Ohio State University in 2011. During her time there, Katie worked in Ohio State's Office of Undergraduate Admissions, where she shared her experiences with prospective students and guided them through the college application process. She also served as the Events Coordinator for The Empower Campaign, a nonprofit student organization devoted to making educational opportunities available to children in Uganda.
This year, Katie is looking forward to getting to know all the students who are involved at Civic House, seeing the great things they will accomplish, and helping them reach their goals.
