Arab Music Ensemble Course


The Greenfield Intercultural Center, in conjunction with the Department of Music and a vibrant community organization, Al Bustan, is sponsoring an Arab Music Ensemble open to all Penn students and members of the Philadelphia community. It can be taken for credit (1/2 credit per semester) and the concert schedule will introduce participants to world class, touring musicians from around the Middle East. This unique ensemble embodies the vision of Penn as an institution that builds connections with the local arts community and will enrich the musical and cultural lives of participants and audiences alike.

Course Description

Course will be led by music director and violin virtuoso Hann Khoury, with percussionist Hafez El Ali Kotain, and is open to singers and percussionists of all skill levels. and intermediate to advanced instrumentalists of strings and wind. Through out the semester, the Ensemble will learn a repertoire of Arab classical music, and put together two to three performances.

Classes will be held on Mondays starting January 23, 2012

Choir Intruction: 6PM - 7:30PM with Hanna Khoury

Percussion Instruction: 6PM - 7PM with Hafez El Ali Kotain

Instrumentalists: 7PM - 9PM led by Hanna Khoury with Hafez El Ali Kotain

Location: UPenn Department of Music, 201 South 34th ST, Rooms 101 and 102

Registration

Penn students may opt to register for .5 cu's per semester (Course code: MUSC007)
