Festival Latino is an annual, weeklong celebration of the richness of Latino culture. Since its beginnings in 1982, Festival has welcomed world-renowned artists, authors, and musicians to enrich the Penn community through performances, lectures, and exhibitions. Past Festival guests have included Julia Alvarez, Larry Harlow, and Margo Gomez.

The Latino Coalition proudly presents the 25th Annual Festival Latino: Penn con Salsa Penn con Salsa, is a week long celebration of Latino culture and its importance in Penn's campus. During the week of March 23-30, there will be cultural, social and educational events to celebrate with our friends & allies. There will be performances by local artists as well as members of our own Penn community. We will offer the opportunity to outreach to the Philadelphia community in our Arts and Crafts community service activity. In addition there will be poetry, cinema, educational discussions, and to close things with a golden seal, a Charity Art Auction and Formal Reception, amongst several other events. We invite you to join us in the many events that the members of the Latino Coalition have prepared for you.

Saturday, March 24th Community Service Enjoy a fun arts and crafts outing to Taller Puertorriqueño, a local art workshop, and contribute to the Philadelphia community as we work on improving their garden. Sunday, March 25th ICA Exhibit Guided Tour ICA Monday, March 26th Dr. Rafael Reygadas, a historian, is a professor and researcher at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) in Mexico City, and has taught at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He is the author and editor of many books and over sixty articles on topics ranging from the connection between universities and the formation of political subjects, to the creation of a civil society and its participation in the democratic process. He is the founder of several organizations that aim to bring the representation of marginal subjects to national processes. An activist as well as scholar, Rafael Reygadas has been officially involved in the mediation efforts between the Zapatista insurgency and the government and has given testimony to the U.N. and other international agencies on popular mobilizations and human rights in Mexico. Dr. Reygadas has presented scholarly work and social analyses in multiple venues in Europe and the Americas.

A typical Aztec ritual dance performed in honor of the gods of nature and the cosmos will be performed by a local Mexican cultural organization called Ollin Yoliztli - Calmecac. Aided by typical clothings, instruments, and insence, amongst other things, they bring to live the native Mexican folklore. A tipical Thursday, March 29th Mondongo Scam is a solo theater piece that deals with stereotypes of all kinds. It’s a brief description of the lives of so many people living and working in the United States and their struggles for survival. Mondongo Scam is a monologue about the possible personality changes resulting from the need to use another individual's personal documents. It travels from different decades in the past to the present, interweaving nationalities, genres, places, ages, verbs and spirits. The action takes place in a courtroom where an immigrant Latino worker is on trial for using social security cards and other documents of deceased U.S.
