Community Resource Guide

This Resource Guide - and the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Center which produced it - are demonstrations that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people are valued and appreciated at Penn. The LGBT Center, housed in the historic Carriage House, is the premiere facility of its kind in the country.

As you will see on the inside cover of the Guide, sexual orientation and gender identity are included in the University’s non-discrimination policy. Penn students, faculty, administrators, and staff are also protected by the University’s General Code of Conduct and Sexual Harassment Policy. If you experience discrimination or mistreatment on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, please contact the Center or one of the University’s other resource offices.

The support of the University is also represented in the many campus groups and services intended for and sensitive to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. This Guide was prepared to acquaint you with those resources, as well as with organizations and activities in the greater Philadelphia area. The community beyond Penn offers many valuable opportunities; we urge you to take full advantage of them. In striving to achieve their missions, many of the organizations listed depend on volunteers. In addition to the assistance provided to organizations, community service can be an enlightening and rewarding experience for those who volunteer. So please consider giving some time to campus and community groups.

Though this Guide was intended to be extensive, it could not possibly be exhaustive. Most descriptions were provided by organizations themselves. And, though all of the listings have been verified to be correct, community and campus organizations wax and wane and details change quickly. Please notify the Center of any omissions or incorrect listings. Also, you should consult the version of the Guide on the Center’s website which is kept up-to-date.

Special gratitude is due to Eric Boschetti and Amanda Nordstrom for managing the research and compilation of the Guide.

The President, Provost, and Vice Provost for University Life join me in the hope that you find the Resource Guide useful and that your experiences at Penn and in the Philadelphia area are fulfilling and enjoyable.
