The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Center Mentoring Program matches lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning Penn students with a mentor who can provide them with help concerning their sexual orientation/identity. Confidentiality is assured, and students can move at their own pace. The Mentoring Program is administered by the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Center at the University of Pennsylvania. All students at the University of Pennsylvania are eligible regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, school, or group affiliation.

So, why be mentored (or a mentor, for that matter)? Well, for starters...

  • Being a mentee at Penn is an opportunity to get to know campus and Philadelphia through a lesbian gay bisexual transgendered (LGBT) person.
  • It can be emotional support, when times are tough, or just when you want to talk.
  • It's social; attending LGBT events or places can be intimidating at first, but with a helpful guide can be fun.
  • Being a mentee is not a full-time commitment; you decide how much time you need and what things you need help with.
  • Being a mentee doesn't mean you have problems. A mentor can be a helpful guide when you are new to the community or new to PENN.
  • Bottom line? It's fun and will hopefully make your life here at PENN less stressful.

NOTE: This is the online form for students to register to be mentored. If you want to register to be a mentor, please go to our online Mentor Registration Form.

The Program attempts to match mentees with mentors based on similarities in characteristics, such as sexual orientation, gender, interests, and race/ethnicity. In the event that a mentor with the same characteristics as yours is not available, the program will match you with the person who is most similar to you.

If you have any comments, wish to add any additional information, or have any preferences for a type of mentor, please note them here. You are strongly encouraged to list those traits which are important to you for your mentor to share (i.e. ethnicity, religion, etc.).
