Sandi Herman
Usui Reiki Master Practitioner, Wellness Educator

Sandi offers Reiki, a gentle form of “hands-on” energy work.  Reiki not only helps to reduce the physical and emotional symptoms of stress, it also strengthens the immune system, and promotes restful sleep, healing, relaxation, and pain reduction.  During a Reiki session, the client remains fully clothed on a massage table while Sandi places her hands at certain positions on or above the client’s body as a way of supporting the free flow of energy.

In addition to her Reiki practice, Sandi also has developed and offers the WholeBreath™ smoking cessation program that incorporates behavioral therapy, meditation, energy work, and guided visualizations, in assisting people to become smoke-free.  The smoking cessation program is available to all members of the Penn community, and is provided free to students.

Sandi’s educational background includes degrees in social work and health education.  She worked for 21 years at a women’s reproductive health center as the Director of Counseling, Training, and Education.  During that time, she began exploring the healing potential of complementary therapies, with the study of shiatsu and acupressure in 1989.  She later studied mindfulness meditation, aromatherapy, guided visualization, qigong, and the use of art as a means of self-discovery.  She became a Reiki level 1 practitioner in 1997, and a Reiki Master Practitioner in 2006.  Sandi believes in each person’s unique capacity for self-healing, and seeks to empower her clients to discover that source of strength within themselves.

She offers WholeBreath as well as individual stress reduction sessions. Free of charge to students but smoking cessation is free to faculty/staff for first visit only.
