Implementation:

The job of the resident health liaisons is to serve as the link between the Office of Health Education and the RA/GA staff of the College House. The health liaisons are about to make it easier for the RA’s and GA’s to better help their students deal with the health-related issues of college by learning about and utilizing the specific resources available at Penn.

The idea is to have RA’s and GA’s put to use the resources learned about during staff training in August.

The liaison is to encourage their respective house staff (non health-liaison RA/GA’s) to organize appropriate health workshops, covering identified issues of focus. The goal of such workshops is to educate the residents of the college house through their respective RA/GA’s. To accomplish this goal it is the job of the health liaison to motivate, train, and educate via. train-the-trainer sessions the other RA/GA’s to implement health-related programming on their respective suites. The hope is that each RA/GA together with the extensive support of the Liaison will be able to direct students to appropriate workshops, which are timed to coincide with the major events of the year, and resources (off-campus & on-campus).

Selected resources (on/off campus), descriptions and contact information are available on this website. Appropriate workshops will be scheduled once a month for the Liaisons and provide them with the information to give to their respective college house staff. Thematic workshops and their schedule can be found on the website.

Depending on the topic covered and the resource group involved, the workshops can be discussion based, game format, or instructional in nature. The format is at the discretion of the organizing party. But, be creative! It is important to be creative in order to attract students to attend. When appropriate, the RA/GA’s are encouraged to involve interested residents in the planning and implementation of workshops.

Overall, we are striving to:

  1. Promote healthy living at Penn through the College Houses
  2. Learn how and where to refer students to health-related resources
  3. Work together to make the College Houses a safer and better place to live
