College House Health Liaison Project 2004-2005

Purpose:

To provide expanded health care promotions and health resource access for Penn undergraduate residents in the University’s College Houses through a network of Health Liaisons supported by a convening, interdisciplinary team.

Program Staffing Overview:

Selected staff for the project includes resident advisers and graduate associates from the 11 college houses along with administration from the Office of Health Education and College Houses. Staff members serve as knowledgeable resources about Penn’s health and wellness centers and services and highlight access points of entry of health-related services and peer health resources.

Focus:

The thematic focus of the Health Liaison Pilot Project is on the following themes identified through surveys conducted by the Office of Health Education specific to the University of Pennsylvania population and student/staff focus groups as the areas of most concern to the undergraduate population: nutrition, infectious disease, stress, alcohol abuse, and drug abuse.

Project Objectives:

  • To provide informational sessions regarding pertinent health issues to the college house population and the resident GA/RA staff.
  • To serve as local sources of information to college house residents re: available health resources offered at Penn
  • To implement thematic programs to address additional student-evidenced needs as they arise.
  • To provide support to other staff in their health-related program development.
