Changes to Student Organization Dolphin Accounts

On July 25 ISC upgraded the server which houses Dolphin accounts to one that uses Zimbra software. See the instructions below for information you should know as an account manager and/or webmaster.

Webmasters

ISC has transferred your active web files to the new Dolphin virtual server on origin.www.upenn.edu. Your new URL is now:

www.dolphin.upenn.edu/account_name/  (no more ~)

where account_name is the name of your current Dolphin account. There will be automatic redirects from your old URL to the new one until December 5th. The redirects will be turned off on that day so start editing your internal links to the old Dolphin now.

How to get to your files on the virtual Dolphin

If you do not have the software listed below, you can download it from the Computing server. You will need a Kerberos ticket manager (encrypts your password) and an FTP program (the application that handles the file uploads and downloads). You will be connecting to the host origin.www.upenn.edu and using your PennKey and PennKey password.

Working on a Mac? Use Kerberos for Macintosh and Fetch and follow these directions: www.upenn.edu/computing/help/doc/ftp/kerberosfetch.html

Working on a PC? Use Kerberos for Windows (Leash32 will also still work) and FileZilla, and follow these:
www.upenn.edu/computing/help/doc/ftp/kerberosfilezilla.html.
After you get your Kerberos ticket, the FileZilla settings will be:
Host: origin.www.upenn.edu
Servertype: FTP
Logontype: anonymous
Password: none, it will be grayed out. Your Kerberos ticket is what identifies you to the server and allows you access to the appropriate directory.

If you are behind a firewall or router and can't connect, first try the alternate cofiguration.

If you are still unable to connect, especially if you are a new webmaster, you may not be on the access list. Send Fran Walker, walker@upenn.edu, your name, Penn email address and group account name to be added to that list. All current account owners already have access.

Lists

Many groups used restricted and unrestricted distribution lists – e.g., groupmembers@dolphin.upenn.edu – as their primary means of communication. Those lists are no longer supported on the Dolphin server. You have several options for replacements:

  1. Move your lists to a free service like Google Groups or Yahoo Groups.
These are easy to set up and use. If you need help getting the addresses in your current lists, contact Fran Walker, walker@upenn.edu.
  2. Large lists can be switched to ISC’s Listserv service (these are lists to which individuals can subscribe and unsubscribe themselves, like the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior class lists). However, your group will be charged for these. If you want to switch, contact Fran Walker for instructions.

Group E-mail

Your email address account_name@dolphin.upenn.edu will continue to work, though you can also use @zimbra.upenn.edu. Instead of reading the mail on Penn Webmail, you will be using the new Zimbra interface. To get to your mail, login with your PennKey and PennKey password here:

http://zimbra.upenn.edu

For those who are not technically inclined, this is a lot of information. Don’t hesitate to ask for help: Fran Walker, walker@upenn.edu.
