Fundraising Within University Buildings
-
I. University Organizations
- A. The procedures for reserving and using University facilities
apply to fund-raising activities by University organizations.
- B. Student organizations are permitted to raise funds for their
own group activities and for charitable projects provided that
money collected is intended for purposes consistent with the University
and its tax-exempt status. All proceeds must be deposited in a
University account and disbursed in accordance with established
student activities guidelines.
- C. Student fundraising activities must be in compliance with
University, municipal, state, and federal policies. In addition, all fundraising
events and activities by student organizations must be approved, in advance,
by the relevant School or, for University student organizations, by the
Office of the Vice Provost for University Life in consultation with the Office
of Student Life.

II. Non-University Groups
- A. Non-University groups are not permitted to use University
facilities for fund-raising purposes. The term "fund raising"
applies to those situations in which income from an admission
charge, a voluntary contribution, or any other means exceeds the
anticipated cost of sponsoring a program permitted under the procedures
for reserving and using University facilities.
- B. Admission charges or voluntary contributions may occasionally
be appropriate to cover the expenses of a program sponsored by
a tax-exempt group.
- C. Admission charges must be approved in advance by the Conference
Coordinator.
-
III. Concerts
- A. Concerts cannot be used for fund-raising purposes. Concerts
that are not related to the academic program and that are held
in University facilities should be for programming purposes only
and should be sponsored solely by members of the University. The
University does not have the staff or the proper facility arrangements
to accommodate concerts other than those sponsored for campus
programming purposes.
- B. The Social Planning and Events Committee (SPEC) is responsible
for University concerts that involve artists' fees and that are
not related to the academic program or to the program of the Annenberg
Center. SPEC also is responsible for coordinating the scheduling
of such concerts.
- C. Priority for scheduling the concerts referred to in the
preceding paragraph will be given to the established concert series.
Other concerts involving artists' fees should not be scheduled
within three weeks of a program belonging to the regular campus
series.
- D. All proceeds from concerts must be deposited in a University
account for use under the established student activities guidelines.
