PennArts is a pre-orientation program for 40 students sponsored by the Vice Provost for University Life, University Life Arts Initiatives, the Undergraduate Assembly, the Office of the Provost, the Trustees Council of Penn Women, the Music Department, Undergraduate Fine Arts, and the Theatre Arts Program. During PennArts all students will have a variety of opportunities to experience the vast artistic offerings at Penn and in
And of course you will have a great time getting to know Penn and like-minded students in a relaxed setting before New Student Orientation begins!
PennArts will be facilitated by upperclass students who have participated in and are leaders of arts organizations on campus. In addition, the Master Artists are professional artists with excellent credentials and years of teaching experience. All participants take all three master classes which are fun introductions to each area. Participants stay on campus. The program begins the evening of Sunday, August 30, 2009 and ends with a showcase the morning of Thursday, September 3, 2009. No part of New Student Orientation will be missed.
Each year, we receive more applications for the program than there are spaces available. Participants will be selected based upon a careful review of the applications submitted by the deadline, June 30th, 2009. Each application is reviewed and rated by the staff and student leaders of the program and a consensus is reached. After selections are made, every applicant will be notified of their status by July 9th, 2009. Those invited to participate will need to promptly complete registration forms and submit payment. Students may apply to other pre-orientation programs as well and then decide which program to attend based upon their selection status.
Each participant is required to pay $325.00. This fee covers master artists, materials, meals, lodging and a T-shirt. A partial scholarship is available to eligible students who qualify for financial aid through Penn.
