Penn Take Back the Night
Thursday, April 2nd, 6:30pm
Rally begins at College Green, followed by a march across campus, ending with a Speak Out and vigil at Wynn Commons

Join the Penn community as we take a stand against sexual, dating and domestic violence! Take Back the Night will begin with a rally where speakers share personal stories of survival, followed by a march across campus to bring attention to and raise awareness about the importance of making our campus, streets and community safe for women. The event will conclude with a vigil and speak out held at Wynn Commons.
Co-sponsored by: Penn Women’s Center, the Penn Division of Public Safety and a Department of Justice Violence Against Women Grant.

The Penn Women’s Center staff and additional support people will be available for any students who would like to come and discuss Take Back the Night and their reactions. This can be students seeking more resources, students who would like to get involved in violence prevention, or anyone who would just like to talk about the event.

SOARS: Story of a Rape Survivor

SOARS (Story of a Rape Survivor) is considered one of the most innovative and entertaining programs of its kind.  SOARS documents Professor Salamishah Tillet's personal journey of surviving and healing from sexual violence by featuring a diverse cast of women who use modern dance, spoken-word, music and photography to retell this universal story of triumph and hope.  For more information click here.

Sexual Violence at Penn: Student Discussion and Panel

Join us for an interactive and informative presentation about where to seek help at Penn if you or a friend is a victim of sexual assault. We will begin with a fictional monologue about one women’s experience with sexual assault on a college campus written and presented by Rev. Dr. Beverly Dale. This will be followed by an open discussion with representatives from Penn’s various support systems on campus including Special Services, the Christian Association, and the Penn Women’s Center.


S.A.F.E: Self-defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange

S.A.F.E. (Self-defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange) is an unparalleled 2-hour educational awareness, crime-victim prevention program – encompassing Strategies, Techniques, Options, and Prevention – that provides teenaged & adult women with information that may reduce their risk of exposure to violence and introduces them to the physical aspects of self-defense. S.A.F.E classes are now held at Penn on the 8th of every month during the Fall and Spring semesters. It is sponsored by UPPD Special Services and The Trustees Council of Penn Women.
