Graduate Professional Women’s Organization (GPWO)
Graduate Professional Women’s Organization (GPWO) was created in 1985 in response to the needs of graduate and professional women students on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The primary mission of GPWO is to support graduate and professional women, break the isolation often experienced by these students and to provide avenues for graduate and professional women’s issues such as discrimination, harassment, the scarcity of tenured women faculty, etc. to be addressed. GPWO also sponsors educational programs on women’s issues as well as social functions seeking inclusion of all women in the Penn Community. This year a total of 4 meetings were held with 19 members. The meetings were aimed to give graduate women a space to come together for support and social activities including a networking “Games Night” at Dubois College House, a “Mix and Mingle” at the Graduate Student Center and providing information on PWC services and other campus organizations for graduate and professional students. During Spring semester a special meeting was called in order to do outreach for graduate women to become active in Take Back The Night.
