P.E.A.R.L. (Penn’s Eagerly Awaited Radical LesBiTrans Women)
P.E.A.R.L. (Penn’s Eagerly Awaited Radical LesBiTrans Women) is an organization designed to make Penn more fun for women. Founded in 1988 on an informal basis, PEARL developed by and for women interested in addressing the needs of lesbian, bisexual, and questioning women and their friends. It provides education, social networking opportunities as well as peer contact and support systems, which are unique on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. This year PEARL sponsored a number of programs including two dinners cosponsored with the PWC. The Fall 2002 program provided an opportunity for an informal discussion of issues and concerns facing LGBTQ women at Penn. The Spring 2003 dinner was part of PWC celebration of QPENN and featured guest speakers, Linda Hanna and Sharon Mullally discussing “Peace as an LGBTQ Issue examining the conflict in the Mideast and their recent trip to the West Bank and Gaza Strip as part of a U.S. peace keeping team. Discussions on relationships and dating was another topic pursued this year by PEARL.
