Shaina Adams-El Guabli Program and Outreach Coordinator
Through this position, Shaina brings her energy and enthusiasm to her work with students, faculty, and staff across campus to fulfill the Penn Women's Center mission of meeting the needs of women across campus. Shaina supports the Penn community in their activism around women's issues, and collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to raise awareness through events and programming.
Shaina received her B.A. in Sociology and Religion from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX in 2005 and her M.S.Ed. in Intercultural Communication from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania. Through her studies, Shaina focused on discourse and communication across and within diverse populations, and is particularly interested in the intersections of language and identity (including gender). Shaina is passionate about issues facing women internationally, and in 2007, she spent six months volunteering in a rural village in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. During this time abroad, Shaina worked with the women in the village to create a craft cooperative, taught English lessons, and helped to facilitate women's health programming. Every year, Shaina returns to Morocco to visit family and friends and has grown very close to communities there.
Outside of her work at the Penn Women's Center, Shaina is passionately involved in peace and social justice work. She served on the National Council of the Fellowship of Reconciliation for three years, and is now on the Steering Committee of Philadelphia Jews for a Just Peace. Shaina is a proud Texan who grew-up on the gulf coast, and enjoys spending time in the water as often as possible. She also finds relaxation at Clark Park and through walks around her West Philly neighborhood.
