Add-On Plan

A condition of enrollment at the University of Pennsylvania is that all fulltime and dissertation students have health insurance coverage that meets the school's criteria.  If your coverage does not meet the waiver criteria established by the University, you will be required to purchase PSIP. 

If your currently have coverage that nearly meets the requirements set by the University of Pennsylvania but does not provide local coverage in the Philadelphia area, we have developed a plan option (UPENN Add-On Plan) that may work for you.  If you are a full time student and have other coverage that meets all of the waiver criteria except for the following, you will be eligible for the UPENN Add-On Plan:

• Coverage for both in-patient and out-patient medical care in Philadelphia, including but not limited to specialist office visits and diagnostic testing. Emergency or Urgent only care is not sufficient.
• Coverage for both in-patient and out-patient mental health care in Philadelphia. Emergency or Urgent only care is not sufficient.

The goal of this plan is to complement your existing coverage and ensure you are able to access needed care while studying here in Philadelphia.  You are still eligible to purchase the PSIP plan and will be default enrolled into PSIP in the absence of a valid waiver or selection of the UPENN Add-On Plan.

If you are eligible, and wish to change selection to, or enroll in, the UPENN Add-On Plan please contact the UPENN Student Health Insurance office at 215 746 3535, Option # 3.  Deadline for enrollment in the UPENN Add-on Plan is September 30, 2012.

Rates:

The annual rate for the Add-On Plan is $1,780. Unlike PSIP the Clinical Fee will not be refunded.

Payment is made directly to Aetna Student Health at the time of enrollment.

Other Information:

The plan's coverage period is 08/15/12-08/14/13.
