The purpose of the VPUL Computing Team is to have a person in every office serve as a "super user." This person interacts with University Life Technology Services (ULTS) and provides first-level service for personal computers, peripherals, generic software and application software. The designated representative is a member of the office staff and not ULTS. The representative acts as the initial point of contact for users in a specific location. Users can get immediate attention when they have routine questions and difficulties in operating their personal computers or using printers and related equipment. The function of the VPUL Computing Team is to supplement, not replace the Help Desk technicians. The intent is to maximize the outreach of Technology Services and provide better service to users. Some of the advantages gained by creating the VPUL Computing Team:
|
1. By having access to a near-by super user, individual users can have more immediate attention.
They can ask questions in an informal way, rather than calling the Help Desk and having the call logged and
tracked.
2. Information can be disseminated in a more timely fashion.
3. Conversions and upgrades can be implemented more quickly and efficiently.
4. Having a site representative means that Help Desk technicians are deployed more effectively.
5. It is likely that peripherals that are public such as printers would receive better maintenance when assigned
to an on-site user.
By having an on-site contact, University Life Technology Services can be more productive in communicating technical information, resolving problems and implementing equipment and software upgrades and conversions. The overall flow of communication between users and Technology Services can be significantly enhanced.
