Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia- Community Development Studies

The Community Development Studies and Education Department promotes community development in low- and moderate-income communities and fair and impartial access to credit in underserved markets. The department works closely with financial institutions, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies on public-private partnerships that result in increased affordable housing and community and economic development.  We are hoping to fill two full-time research positions in the summer of 2014.

Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities (City of Philadelphia)The Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities (MOTU) works with several operating and planning agencies in Philadelphia and across the region to make sure Philadelphians can get where they are going, by foot, bike, car or transit. The Office works with organizations such as the Philadelphia Parking Authority to ensure that parking policy makes it easy for shoppers to come down town, and it works with the Streets Department and SEPTA to make sure that it is easy for commuters to travel along our city's commercial corridors. Northeast Corridor Commission

The Northeast Corridor (NEC) Commission was established by Congress to foster the creation and implementation of a regional, visionary, long-term investment strategy for the rail corridor; to recommend and help advance near-term projects that will improve NEC performance; to coordinate regional communication; and to educate stakeholders and the public about the importance of this critical infrastructure asset. The Commission is comprised of representatives from each of the NEC states, Amtrak, and the U.S. Department of Transportation, and includes non-voting representatives from freight railroads and states with connecting corridors. Summer opportunities would support the Commission's planning and policy staff in Washington, DC advancing the work of the Commission and its committees.

Pennsylvania Environmental Council

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council, celebrating its 40th anniversary, is an environmental action non-profit that protects and restores the natural and built environments through innovation, collaboration, education and advocacy.

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1827. PHS operates the nation's most comprehensive community greening program. Since 1974, PHS has supported the design, construction, and care of community gardens, parks, and high-profile public green spaces; the cleanup, stabilization, and upkeep of approximately 8,000 vacant parcels in Philadelphia, and the planting and care of trees throughout the region. PHS has also been involved in the design and construction of green infrastructure projects throughout the city in conjunction with the Philadelphia Water Department and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation. Working in partnership with neighborhood residents, community organizations and city agencies, PHS uses greening as a community building tool. It educates and empowers people to make the city a more attractive and livable place through design and horticulture. PHS's program staff includes a robust team of landscape architects, urban planners, GIS specialists, gardeners, horticulturists, arborists, educators and community outreach professionals.

Perkins Eastman

Philadelphia City Planning Commission

The City Planning Commission is responsible for guiding the orderly growth and development of the City of Philadelphia. The PCPC's Home Rule Charter-mandated functions are to:

- Prepare, adopt, and modify a Comprehensive Plan of the City;
- Prepare an annual Capital Program and Budget;
- Prepare proposed zoning ordinances, maps, and amendments;
- Prepare regulations concerning the subdivision of land;
- Make recommendations to City Council on the foregoing, in addition to the acquisition or disposition of City real estate.

While these duties have remained constant for many years, the agency's responsibilities also encompass economic, community development, environmental planning/sustainability, and urban design issues.

Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation

PIDC is a partnership of the City of Philadelphia and the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce created to plan and implement economic development programs which enhance the competitive environment and which generate jobs and higher tax ratables within the City of Philadelphia.  PIDC accomplishes its misssion by:  Developing, delivering and managing financing programs; acquiring, developing, managing and conveying real estate; providing development management assistance; and partnering in regional development activity.

Philadelphia Water Department

The Philadelphia Water Department and Water Revenue Bureau serve the Greater Philadelphia region by providing integrated water, wastewater, and stormwater services. The utility's primary mission is to plan for, operate, and maintain both the infrastructure and the organization necessary to purvey high quality drinking water, to provide an adequate and reliable water supply for all household, commercial, and community needs, and to sustain and enhance the region's watersheds and quality of life by managing wastewater and stormwater effectively.
