Community Service

Given its urban location, Penn offers innumerable opportunities to get involved in community service projects.  As a dentist, you will aim to make a positive mark on the world around you. As an undergraduate, contributing to the betterment of the neighborhoods around this university is a wonderful way to begin outfitting yourself for this role.

Civic House, the main umbrella organization for community service at Penn, maintains an excellent web site with information on ways to volunteer. The Netter Center for Community Partnerships also offers many community service opportunities.

The activities that many pre-dental students undertake include:

  • Tutoring at inner-city schools
  • Providing peer education
  • Volunteering at a homeless shelter
  • Staffing a crisis hotline
  • Building homes through Habitat for Humanity

Campus Extracurricular Activities

Many pre-dental students are involved on campus. Whether you choose to devote time to playing on a sports team, singing in an a cappella group, or writing for a student magazine, it is important that you demonstrate leadership and commitment to activities that genuinely interest you.
