A Note from our Director, Dr. David Grossman
Dear Civic House Alumni,
We have had an active fall semester at Civic House! Ranging from our Open Forum, student-facilitated discussions around a range of current topics to our Working Group, a staff-student collaboration that works to ensure that our initiatives are moving forward as one, our work is as energized as ever.
Of course, these projects complement our projects with which you may be most familiar. Among the items in this newsletter, you will read about news from Penn Alternative Breaks (formerly known as Alternate Spring Break). Beyond their name change, PAB works to strengthen their collaborations with partner organizations across the country while also bolstering their education efforts in ways that enrich the effectiveness of their work and the experiences of involved students.
You will also see profiles of students and an alumnus involved in efforts including the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project and our Civic Engagement Program. In addition, you will see previews highlighting some of our annual events, which we hope you can attend.
Among those events will be a series of plans helping us to celebrate Civic House's upcoming 20th Anniversary! Each of you played a role in our exciting journey to this milestone, and we will reach out with news about those events and ways that you can engage. We look forward to your participation!
It has never been more important for each one of us to be civically involved, and we are proud that Civic House continues to play a significant role in helping students to do just that. We are grateful for your role in helping to make that possible, and look forward to connecting with you over the coming months.
