The Greenfield Intercultural Center, in conjunctionwith the Department of Music and a vibrant community organization, Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, is sponsoring an Arab Music Ensemble open to all Penn students and members ofthe Philadelphia community. It can be taken for credit (1/2 credit persemester) and the concert schedule will introduce participants to world class,touring musicians from around the Middle East. This unique ensemble embodiesthe vision of Penn as an institution that builds connections with the localarts community and will enrich the musical and cultural lives of participantsand audiences alike.
Led by music director and violin virtuoso HANNA KHOURY with percussionist HAFEZ KOTAIN and cellist/maqam theory specialist KINAN ABOU-AFACH, the Philadelphia Arab Music Ensemble and Philadelphia Arab Percussion Ensembles are community ensembles open to middle/high school and college students and adults. Singers and percussionists of all skill levels and intermediate to advanced instrumentalists (must read music) of strings and wind are invited to join. Through out the semester, the Ensemble will learn a repertoire of Arab classical music, and put together two to three performances.

ï¿½ Choir II: 7 - 8:00pm (advanced/native Arabic) with Hanna Khoury
ï¿½ Percussion I: 7 - 8:00pm (beginner-intermediate level) with Hafez Kotain
ï¿½ Percussion II: 6 - 7:00pm (advanced/native Arabic) with Hafez Kotain
ï¿½ Instrumentalists (wind/string and select percussionists): 8 - 9:00pm led by Hanna Khoury with Kinan Abou-afach and Hafez Kotain
