OLR Student Advisory Board
The Office of Learning Resources first convened its student advisory board in Fall 2015. The OLR Student Advisory Board provides consultation and support for the services and programs offered to all Penn students through this office and comprises a diverse representation of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
Current OLR Student Advisory Board Members
Hardika has been working for three years with displaced and marginalized communities in India to enable them to build their homes. She is currently an MPA Candidate at Fels Institute of Government. In addition to being on the OLR Advisory Board, she is Graduate Studies & Special Projects Fellow at the Fels Institute and serves as the Chair for Students Confronting Racism and White Privilege. She sees Weingarten as a great resource that can help students cope with the demands of the academic workload at Penn. To unwind, she likes to listen to folk music, read poetry, crochet, or cook.
From Cleveland, Ohio Daniel Gonzalez (C' 20) is an active member in the First-Generation Low-Income community at Penn. His roles outside of the OLR Advisory Board include being Social Chair for Questbridge, Co-Mentorship Chair for Penn First, Peer Counselor for the Penn College Achievement Program, and Tour Guide for the Kite and Key Society. For Dan, meeting with a learning instructor freshman year was key to adjusting to Penn. Now, Dan sees the advisory board as an opportunity to make a great resource even better! In his free time, Dan enjoys biking throughout Philadelphia and cooking comfort food.
Lisa is from Caguas, Puerto Rico. She's a sophomore in the School of Nursing interested in pursuing a Global Health minor. On campus, she is a member of PennFirst and an active sister of alpha Kappa Delta Phi Sorority. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing volleyball, and meeting new people. As a member of the OLR advisory board, she is excited to work on promoting available resources to Penn students.
From the suburbs of Chicago, Jakub Jarmula is planning on majoring in Biology and hopes to pursue a career in medicine. He enjoys watching hockey, playing tennis, exploring Philadelphia, and cooking. As a PennCAP Peer Counselor, Jakub is looking forward to continuing to work with the Office of Learning Resources to promote their programs and resources for all Penn students.
From Toledo, Ohio, Rick is a freshman in Wharton. He plans on concentrating in either finance or real estate. Rick is a member of the Student Health Advisory Board on campus and is also involved in the Corporate Strategy and Business Development club as well as the Joseph Wharton Scholar program. Through the OLR Student Advisory Board, Rick hopes to help promote the Weingarten Center and its resources amongst undergraduates by breaking down the stigma surrounding it.
Jason is a sophomore in Wharton. Hailing from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Jason knew that he wanted to promote the well-being of the student body at Penn. As an Undergraduate Assembly representative and a member of the OLR Student Advisory Board, he has worked on improving student conditions at Penn. Jason is also the Executive VP for the sophomore class and is involved with Penn UNICEF. He loves to meet new people and in his free time enjoys playing tennis.
Jesse is a freshman in the college from Fayetteville, Arkansas majoring in economics. On campus, Jesse is involved with the University Honor Council, the Admission Dean's Advisory Board, and the Dining Advisory Board. When he's not studying or participating in clubs, Jesse enjoys exploring the city of Philadelphia, watching basketball, and spending time with friends. Jesse is excited to work with the Office of Learning Resources to promote their programs and resources to Penn students at all levels.
Victoria is a senior in the College, majoring in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations and minoring in Linguistics. She is a proud member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, where she serves as the Marketing Chair. She takes pride in promoting the only pre-law fraternity on Penn's campus. She is a firm supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement, advocating for justice on the behalf of African-Americans and speaking out against systematic racism. After graduation, Victoria seeks to pursue a career in education policy, improving equity and evidence-based policies in Higher Education. However, during her last semester at Penn, she looks forward to becoming more involved with Penn Wellness and the conversation around mental health on campus. By doing so, she is currently serving on the OLR Student Advisory Board and PennFaces Student Advisory Board, and she is excited about utilizing these platforms to empower and support Penn students.
Khizrah is a sophomore in the College, majoring in Mathematical Economics and possibly minoring in Chemistry and/or Data Science. She is an international student coming from Lahore, Pakistan and currently serves as the Chairperson of the International Mentorship and Orientation Committee in the Assembly of International Students. She is also a board member of the Penn Pakistan Society and can often be found playing rugby at Penn Park with the Penn Women's Rugby Team. In her free time, Khizrah loves to find new places to eat and also loves to curl up with a good book to read.
From Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Liqhwa Ncube is a junior in the College who is still undeclared but premed. Her transition into Penn has been a good experience because of the resources Penn has to offer, especially the Weingarten Learning Instructors! She hopes to share and raise an awareness of these resources to ensure the success of others, especially international students. Besides the Office of Learning Resources Student Advisory Board, she is a PENNCAP peer counselor, PHIN, the historian of the New Spirit of Penn Gospel Choir, and External Liaison for PASA. She is also a member of AIS.
Peter's hometown is Newark, New Jersey. In addition to being on the OLR Advisory Board, Peter is the treasurer of the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students and a participant of the Robeson Coopers Scholars Program. What interests him about being on the OLR Advisory Board is how he can contribute to the better well-being of the Penn student. He sees how Weingarten is a huge asset in accomplishing the feat, and he wishes to support in any way that he can while collaborating with other students who want that same goal.
Park is a second-year doctoral student in Operations, Information, and Decisions at Wharton. Originally from Bangkok, Thailand. He enjoys traveling and photography and has visited 14 countries to learn local history and culture. Besides his passion for food and optimization, Park is interested in employing quantitative and data-driven approaches to empower both education system and teaching-learning methods. At Penn, he is also involved with the Intercultural Leadership Program, Graduate-Undergraduate Mentoring Program, and TEDxPenn. Prior to joining Wharton, Park studied Computer Engineering and Applied Mathematics-Economics at Brown and got his SM degree in Optimization from MIT.
