OLR Student Advisory Board
The Office of Learning Resources first convened its student advisory board in Fall 2015. The OLR Student Adivsory Board provides consultation and support for the services and programs offered to all Penn students through this office and comprises a diverse representation of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
Current OLR Student Advisory Board Members
Danielle is a senior from Brooklyn, New York. She is currently studying Cognitive Science with a concentration in Neuroscience. On campus Danielle is a residential advisor and board member of the Dana How Scholar Mentoring Program. Danielle enjoys exploring what Philly has to offer outside of the 'Penn Bubble' whether it's to find a new study spot, see a performance or find a new place to eat. She also enjoys working with high school students and hopes to continue her work with high school students after she graduates. Danielle's personal experience with the Weingarten Learning Center is her motivation for finding new ways to lead students to Weingarten in hopes of enhancing their experience at Penn.
For the past 3 years, Hardika was working with displaced and marginalized communities in India to enable them to build their homes. She is currently studying Public Administration at Fels Institute of Government. In addition to being on the OLR Advisory Board, she serves as the Deputy of Finance for Students Confronting Racism and White Privilege. She sees Weingarten as a great resource that can help students cope with the demands of academic workload at Penn. To unwind, she likes to listen to folk music, read poetry, crochet, or cook.
From the suburbs of Chicago, Jakub Jarmula is planning on majoring in Biology and hopes to pursue a career in medicine. He enjoys watching hockey, playing tennis, exploring Philadelphia, and cooking. As a PennCAP Peer Counselor, Jakub is looking forward to continue working with the Office of Learning Resources to promote their programs and resources for all Penn students.
Jason is a freshman in the College planning to study Political Science. Hailing from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Jason knew that he wanted to promote the wellbeing of the student body at Penn. As an Undergraduate Assembly representative and a member of the OLR Student Advisory Board, he has worked on improving student conditions at Penn. Jason is also the Executive VP for the freshman class and is involved with the Wharton Public Policy Initiative Student Group and Penn UNICEF. He loves to meet new people and in his free time enjoys playing tennis.
Bohan is a junior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She is currently studying Biochemistry and Economics in the College. On campus, she is involved with the Student Committee on Undergraduate Education, the Student Federal Credit Union and volunteers at HUP. She is passionate about Chipotle, pugs, early grey lattes and bettering the Penn experience for all students. She is interested in how the OLR advisory board can help students get the most out of their education.
Victoria is a junior from Memphis majoring in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations and minors in German and Linguistics. She is a member of the Outreach Committee for No Labels at Penn, a new charter of the nonpartisan political organization. Victoria is also a proud member of the notable Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International. She is a firm supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement, advocating for justice on the behalf of African-Americans and speaking out against systematic racism. She seeks to become more involved with Penn Wellness and the conversation around mental health on campus, especially while serving on the OLR Student Advisory Board. Overall, she is excited about empowering and supporting students here at Penn.
From Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Liqhwa Ncube is a sophomore in the College who is still undeclared but premed. Her transition into Penn has been a good experience because of the resources Penn has to offer, especially the Weingarten Learning Instructors! She hopes to share and raise an awareness to these resources to ensure the success of others, especially international students. Besides the Office of Learning Resources Student Advisory Board, she is a PENNCAP peer counsellor, PHIN, the historian of the New Spirit of Penn Gospel Choir, and External Liaison for PASA. She is also a member of AIS.
Peter's hometown is Newark, New Jersey. In addition to being on the OLR Advisory Board, Peter is the treasurer of the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students and a participant of the Robeson Coopers Scholars Program. What interests him about being on the OLR Advisory Board is how he can contribute to the better well-being of the Penn student. He sees how Weingarten is a huge asset in accomplishing the feat, and he wishes to support in any way that he can while collaborating with other students who want that same goal.
Park is a first-year doctoral student in Operations, Information, and Decisions at Wharton. Originally from Bangkok, Thailand. He enjoys traveling and photography and has visited 14 countries to learn local history and culture. Besides his passion for food and optimization, Park is interested in employing quantitative and data-driven approaches to empower both education system and teaching-learning methods. At Penn, he is also involved with the Intercultural Leadership Program, Graduate-Undergraduate Mentoring Program, and TEDxPenn. Prior to joining Wharton, Park studied Computer Engineering and Applied Mathematics-Economics at Brown and got his SM degree in Optimization from MIT.
Yu-Hsuan is a first-year graduate student. She is currently studying in the program, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in Graduate School of Education. In addition to being on the OLR Advisory Board, Yu-Hsuan is a member in communication committee of GAPSA (Graduate and Professional Student Assembly). She is interested in getting more involved in conversation around interculturalism and interpersonal relationships. As a GSE student, she has utilized a lot of resources and gained valuable feedback from Weingarten; thus she is passionate about promoting these excellent resources on campus by serving on the OLR Advisory Board.
