Are you interested in environmentalism, sustainability, outdoor education, or learning about "green" student groups at Penn? Want to explore Philadelphia and discover some of the cities' coolest parks and outdoor hangouts? Do you want to garden, hike, camp, cook, and volunteer on a farm - all in four days?! Apply for Penn Green! (applications for 2016 Pre-Orientation Programs are no longer open)

Penn has a profound and deep culture of environmental sustainability, with more student groups, leadership opportunities, scholarships, and courses that you can imagine. And on top of that, Penn is situated in one of the greenest cities in America. PennGreen is a pre-orientation program that introduces incoming freshmen to the vibrant environmental opportunities offered at Penn and in Philadelphia.

Through PennGreen, you'll learn about campus sustainability initiatives, meet environmental leaders from the region, and learn from world-renown professors in the environmental field. You'll work on a local urban farm, hike in Philadelphia's huge park system, go camping at scenic state park, explore historic neighborhoods and markets, volunteer with a local urban greening project, and spend a ton of quality time outdoors. The days are packed, but don't worry, the PennGreen student leaders will make sure that you're fueled with healthy, organic, and tasty offerings from local restaurants and Philadelphia's famous farmers markets.

PennGreen leaders are upperclassmen who participated in the PennGreen program during their freshman year and are passionate about environmental issues. Leaders are trained in group dynamics, campus resources, Penn traditions, are experts on environmental issues, and are some of the friendliest Penn students you will ever meet! Penn Green is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the Undergraduate Assembly, and the Penn Sustainability Office.

Selection Process:

Participants will be selected based upon a careful review of the applications. Each application is reviewed and rated by the student leaders of the program and a consensus is reached.  Those invited to participate will need to promptly complete registration forms and submit payment.  Students may apply to other pre-orientation programs as well and then decide which program to attend based upon their selection status.

Please note, you will be able to access the application after April 28th and once you have received your PennKey.

Applications must be submitted by 11:59 on June 21st, 2017.

Cost of Program:

Each participant is required to pay $375.00. This fee covers transportation, meals, move-in early fees, T-shirt, and activity fees. A partial scholarship is available to eligible students who qualify for financial aid through Penn.

If you have questions, feel free to write Julian Goresko at the Penn Sustainability Office.
