In 2009, with generous support from the Vice Provost for University Life and Facilities and Real Estate services, we were able to transform a cracked concrete platform surrounded by chain-link into a beautiful space at the rear of our center. Designed by Penn's Landscape Architect, this lovely and intimate garden provides a unique, welcoming space for reading and relaxing on a brick terrace among lush plantings. There are flower and vegetable beds and the garden offers opportunities for hands-on education about sustainable urban horticulture. The garden also features a stone fireplace and grill to promote informal gatherings of students, staff and faculty. This is the only garden space on campus designed to prioritize the social/programmatic needs of Penn women.
