Common Ground: Dismantling Oppression Olympics

MLK Jr. once said, “Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere.†With this guiding principle in mind, we are excited to host a discussion-based program examining connections between the black civil rights and LGBTQ+ movements. Using prominent historical figures like Bayard Rustin, Lorraine Hansberry, James Baldwin, and Pauli Murray, we will reflect on the intersections of these two social justice movements and attempt to disrupt the dominating narrative that oppression among these communities should be compared. Instead we hope to expand on how these communities can continue to work together to promote freedom, justice, and equality for all people. We invite you to join us for this important conversation on how we bring intersectional perspectives to the ongoing fight for social justice!
